How To Write A Wedding Invitation

Andrei Weddings has seen hundreds of wedding invitations, and noticed that the most important thing about such an invitation is that it should be informative. It should state all essential wedding information—who's getting married, who's hosting and where and when the ceremony will take place. Like in the following example:

The wording on your wedding invitation is crucial, as this is the first impression guests will have of your wedding and you definitely want your wedding to be one to remember, that's why the invitation should sound like you.

Here's the traditional wording:

Some tips: If the bride's parents are hosting, it’s customary to leave off the bride's last name. In the situation a bride having a different last name than her parents, her full name should be used. The following wedding invitation is a perfect example for the traditional wording:

If both sets of parents are jointly hosting:

You should write the bride's parents and groom's parents names on separate lines, starting with the bride's. Since both last names are to be included in the greeting, you don’t need to use either the bride’s or groom's last name. Of course, the same exception mentioned earlier would apply here if either the bride or groom has a different last name than their parents. In that case, list out the full bride’s or groom’s name, in addition to the full names of the parents.

Formal:

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Vicenzo &

Mr. and Mrs. John Coppola

request the honor of your presence

at the marriage of their children

Blake Elaine

and

Emerson

Saturday, the twenty-second of September

two thousand and eighteen

at five in the evening

Casual:

Frederick and Mariah Vicenzo

along with John and Sally Coppola

invite you to share and celebrate at the marriage of their children

Blake Elaine

and Emerson

Saturday, September 22, 2018

If you’re hosting:

If you’ve decided on paying for the wedding yourselves, the greeting skips the host line and begins with the request line.

Formal:

The honor of your presence

is requested at the marriage of

Blake Elaine Vicenzo

to Emerson Coppola

two thousand and eighteen

at five in the evening

Casual:

Emerson Coppola

invite you to share in their joy at their wedding

at 5 in the evening

If everyone is hosting:

If everyone is paying for the wedding, the invitation starts with the bride's name, followed by the groom's name, and finally the parent's names, starting of course with the bride's side.

Ms. Blake Elaine Vicenzo

and

Mr. Emerson Coppola
