One of the most influencial faces of wedding fashion was Queen Victoria. She was the one to set the trend of the white wedding dress. Prior to her wedding day, brides would not offer much importance to the colour of the dress, as much as the detailing and the design.
Since late 19th century, the white wedding dress had become a worldwide tradition, the colour white being associated with purity, wealth and social status.
Back in 1840 when the Wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert took place, photography was still in its early stages so some of the few images from the actual event are the engraving from above and the colour portrait on the right, painted by Franz Xaver Winterhalter.
Wedding fashion, photography and videography developed into a large industry since then. From 10 storey cakes to million dollar wedding dresses the modern princesses and princes can have it all if paying the right price.
